Memorial Day is an American holiday celebrated on the last Monday of May which this year will fall on May 25. It is a day to honor U.S. men and women who have lost their lives while in military service. It was first started to in memory of Union soldiers from the civil war.
Here are some crafts to make in preparation for the holiday.
Craft 1 Windsock:
You Will Need:
- Cylindrical cardboard box with the ends removed or piece of cardboard
- Blue paper
- White paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Red crepe paper
- White crepe paper
- String
Instructions:
- If you don't have a cylindrical box, form the piece of cardboard into one.
- Cover it with blue paper
- Cut out stars from the white paper.
- Glue them on the blue cylinder
- Cut strips of red and white crepe paper and glue them to one end of the cylinder.
- Add a string from the other end to hang the windsock.
Craft 2 Star Pendant
You Will Need:
- Red Fun Foam
- White Fun Foam
- Blue Fun foam
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pen
- String
- Hole punch
Instructions:
- Cut two stars from the Fun Foam making the blue one the largest and the white one the smallest.
- Glue the white star onto the blue star.
- Cut two strips from the red and one from the white Fun Foam that are the same length as the width of the star and about half an inch wide.
- Glue them on the back of the blue star as shown in photo 2.
- Make a hole with the punch on the top of the star and tie on the string.
Craft 3 Red Poppy Magnet
You Will Need:
- Red tissue paper or crepe paper
- Black button
- Glue stick
- Scissors
Instructions:
- Cut four equal sized circles from the red tissue or crepe paper.
- Glue the button to the middle of the first circle.
- Apply glue to the centers of the other three circles and glue them onto the first circle. Crumple each sheet towards the center as shown in photo 3.
- Glue the magnet on to the back.
Complete your celebrations by organizing a parade to honor those brave men and women who have fought and lost their lives in battle.
