Here is an inexpensive and easy way to make a container for collecting all those Halloween treats using a 2 litre pop or soda bottle. Once you are done with it, put it in the recycle bin or return it to a bottle depot along with the cut off top part.

What images do we associate with Halloween? I can think of ghost, goblins, witches, bats, pumpkins, skeletons and black cats. Can you think of more Halloween things to add to this list?

One of my favourite places to visit for decorating ideas is a dollar store. That’s where I picked up some cellophane bags for making this craft. The ones I bought have a pumpkin picture on them but there were others with bats and a Frankenstein.

There were 20 bags in the package and as I only needed one for my treat bucket, I used the rest to make up treat bags for the trick-or-treaters who will come to my door.

Supplies:

2 litre pop or soda bottle
Scissors
Cellophane bag with Halloween motif
Paper hole punch
I inch wide ribbon
Glue
Directions:

Clean and dry the bottle. Remove the label.
Cut off the top of the pop or soda bottle just where it starts to narrow. Save this part if you want to return the bottle to a bottle depot.
Cut the cellophane bag so the picture will fit on the bottle.
Glue on the cellophane bag. Take extra care to apply glue to the very edges of the bag so there are no loose edges.
For the handle, punch holes on the sides of the bottle. Make them as far down as the paper punch will allow you to go. This would be about ¾ of inch.
Thread the ribbon ends through the holes and knot each end inside the bottle.
If you want to make this treat bucket uniquely yours, skip the cellophane bag and draw on your own design with permanent markers. Think back to all the images we associated with Halloween for your inspiration.
