It's much more satisfying giving a home-made Mother's Day card than buying one. Create a personalized card for your Mom from odds and ends found in your home. Make it look like her by matching her eye and hair colour. Then finish off the picture with a crown to make her feel like a "Queen" on her special day.

If you don't have all the items suggested here, use whatever you can find.

You could pick a favorite poem you know to put inside the card. Better still, think of all the special things she does and make up your own poem about your Mom.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Poster board in a pretty colour
  • Fabric
  • Felt
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Glue
  • Felt pen
  • Scissors
  • Fancy buttons
  • Gold poster board
  • Sequins, glitter, ribbon
  • Yarn, fabric or feathers for hair

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Cut out a rectangle from the poster board and bend it in half matching the corners. Run a ruler along the length of the fold to make a tidy crease.
  2. Using a felt pen, write out your Mother's Day poem and sign your name inside the card.
  3. Cut out a rectangle of fabric to fit the bottom half of the folded card. Glue it in place.
  4. Cut a felt circle for her face and glue it on as shown in photo 1.
  5. Glue on wool, fabric or the feathers for the hair.
  6. Add two felt eyes and a red pipe cleaner mouth.
  7. Glue the fancy buttons to her dress.
  8. Cut a crown from the gold poster board and decorate it with the sequins, glitter and ribbon. Glue it in position on her hair. See photo 2.

Giving your mom a card and a present should be just the start of her special day. What else can you do to make it even better and to show her how much you appreciate all she does for you all year long? Why not start with breakfast in bed?
