How did a heart shape become the symbol of our love at Valentine’s Day? Of course, this shape is only a simplification of the real thing.

Before you make a Valentine’s Day glitter craft, play the broken heart game. Children of all ages can play this game. The more the merrier.

You will need enough hearts so that there is one for each child. Make some hearts small and others large. Just make sure no two hearts are alike by using a variety of colours.

If possible, laminate the hearts. Cut them in half in a zigzag fashion so each heart is in 2 pieces.

To play the game, place half the hearts in different parts of the room and hand the other half to each of the children. Their task is to find the heart that is the other half of theirs and put it together.

I often did this game at snack time by placing half the hearts on the tables and giving the other half to the children. This was a great way to get the children to mingle and make new friends.

Make this craft as an ornament or give it out as cards to your friends for Valentine’s Day.

You Will Need:

  • Thin white cardboard
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon
  • Heavy books
  • Wax paper
  • Tissue paper
  • Paintbrush
  • Glitter and sequins

Instructions:

  1. Cut out 2 identical heart shapes from the cardboard for each ornament.
  2. Lay a looped piece of ribbon and with the ends on the top of the heart.
  3. Glue the other cardboard heart on top. Put it between the wax paper and place heavy books on top of the hearts.
  4. Tear small pieces of the tissue and glue them all over the ornament folding them around the edges. While it is still wet, sprinkle on some glitter and sequins.

Now you can dazzle your friends with you glittering heart.
