Fall 2008 Music Concerts in New York City

There are many musical reasons to live in New York City or to travel there this fall. Forget about the traffic, the expensive parking and the endless crush of people, New York City is a world-class venue to see some of the hottest musical artists both old and new. Fall 2008 is jam-packed with the amazing musical talents of Taj Mahal, Patty Griffin, Madonna, Beck, The Black Crowes, Steve Earle, Squeeze and many, many others. Genres of music from these amazing artists include blues, reggae, rock, alternative, bluegrass and pop. Get your tickets early so you can get great seats.

The list below is sorted in alphabetical order by venue.

B.B. King Blues Club and Grill
Sept 15: Shemekia Copeland and the Duke Robillard Band
Sept 22: Toots and the Maytals – Legendary reggae band
Oct 2: Taj Mahal – Incredible blues and world musician, this musician has worked with the cream of the musician crop from Eric Clapton, Etta James, Keb Mo,  Buddy Guy, Howlin' Wolf and the Rolling Stones.
Oct 3: Jerry Lee Lewis – OMG, this guy is still alive and still rockin’!

Blender Theater at Gramercy
Nov 7: Derek Trucks Band – Way hot blues!

Central Park Summer Stage
Sept 17: Patty Griffin – Singer-songwriter and Grammy award nominee.

The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza
Nov 12: Susan Tedeschi and James Hunter – Even more way hot blues!

Oct 27 & 28, 30 & 31: Black Crowes

HighLine Ballroom
Oct 21: Del McCoury Band – the hottest bluegrass band around.
Oct 25: Joan Osborne – What if Joan were one of us? And she is an American blues performer not to be missed.

Oct 3 & 4: Erin McKeown Kind of a folkie singer-writer. I love her sweet yet rocking music.
Oct 8: Lambchop – Hard to categorize band from Nashville, Tennessee. Nothing like the puppet for sure.
Oct 11: Jill Sobule – Self-effacing singer-songwriter from Denver Colorado, probably best known for her song I Kissed a Girl.

Sept 22, 23, 25 & 26: Steve Earle – The legendary social commentary bard.

Madison Square Garden/Radio City Music Hall
Sept 19: Squeeze – Tempted, aren’t you?
Oct 3: Lucinda Williams – Incredibly depressing singer-songwriter from Louisiana. Get out the beer and get ready to cry in it.
Oct 6, 7, 11 & 12: Madonna – The original material girl expresses herself for you.

Mercury Lounge
Oct 8: Legendary Shack Shakers – “I got my rabbit ears on and I wanna get chummy chummy.” Yup.

Socrates Sculpture Park
Sept 5, 2008: Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings – Sharon Jones is a funky musician from Georgia who channels the best funk music of the '70s into the '90s.

Terminal 5
Sept 30: Ben Folds – Nerdy rocker and singer-songwriter from North Carolina.
Nov 5: The Decemberists – Colin Meloy is the voice of this uncategorizable band from Portland, Oregon.
Nov 6 & 7: Drive By Truckers & The Hold Steady – Two southern rock bands who will make you forget ZZ Top.

United Palace
Oct 9 & 10: Beck – The king of pasty alternative rock, Beck continues to reinvent himself and to expand on his oeuvre of techno funk.

So get out, get off your butts and go see some live music in the Big Apple, New York City!
