Kanye West’s social faux pas at the 2009 Video Music Awards has led to the demise of his upcoming planned tour with Lady Gaga. Now that Lady Gaga and Kanye West have decided not to tour together, who the heck is Lady Gaga? Is Lady Gaga strong enough to tour without rapper Kanye?
Veteran Rocker Lady Gaga
Born in 1986 in Yonkers, New York City, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta is also known as Lady Gaga. Her debut album The Fame released in August 2008 is still hot on the charts especially with the hit singles "Just Dance" and "Poker Face." While Lady Gaga may seem like a flash in the pan, at age 23 she is already a veteran in the music world.
Def Jam and Interscope
At age 19, Lady Gaga was signed and then dropped by Def Jam Records but continued to perform rock music on the Lower East Side of New York City. At the same time, Lady Gaga was working as a songwriter at Interscope Records, penning songs for musical acts like Fergie, the Pussycat Dolls and Britney Spears.
Origin of Lady Gaga
Allegedly, her songwriting partner Rob Fusari compared her flamboyant style to that of Freddie Mercury and made a connection to the Queen song "Radio Gaga". The newly crowned Lady Gaga goes on to study with the star performers of the New York performance art scene, with acts such as Lady Starlight. Lady Gaga and Starlight were invited to perform at Lollapalooza in 2007 and the show was highly acclaimed.
