Simon Cowell has announced that this is his final season of the blockbuster television series American Idol. So who would be the best candidate to replace him?
Howard Stern?
There are rumblings that Howard Stern has been approached about replacing Cowell, which means that American Idol is looking for another bitchy man to replace the infamously cranky Simon. If American Idol is looking for brutally honest men who have experience in the music and recording industry they may want to consider Gene Simmons or Elton John.
Career Revival
American Idol might also consider throwing a bone to an older, established musician who needs a little spotlight, a little career rejuvenation. Candidates for experienced Simon replacement might include: Barry Manilow, Tony Bennet, John Hiatt, Robert Plant, or Wayne Newton.
Simon’s Pick to Replace
Meanwhile, Simon himself has lots of ideas about who should replace him on American Idol. One news story says that Simon has recommended Perez Hilton, the famous gossip blogger. Another story has suggested that Noel Gallagher from Oasis would be a good replacement for Simon. “I know Noel quite well. I like him. He is very funny and a brilliant songwriter – it’s a possibility,” Cowell told the Press Association. Simon has also said that his replacement should be good looking, of course!
Simon’s Next Project
Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol to focus on another television project called X Factor, another singing competition television show that began in the United Kingdom. Simon and his company Syco TV are the executive producers of the show. Simon also created the format of the show and acts as a judge, just like on American Idol. X Factor is so successful that there are versions of the television program in Saudi Arabia, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. That makes the X Factor a worldwide phenomenon!
Look for Simon Cowell's X Factor to debut in the United States on the Fox network sometimes in 2011.
