Apple's New Must Have Toy: The iPod Touch
Building on the success of it's very popular iPod line of digital media players, Apple has released information about its new iPod Touch media player to be available in late September. Marrying features of its recently released iPhone, the new iPod Touch marries the sleek touch screen display of the iPhone with a fully featured media center including wireless Internet browsing and YouTube Video support. The 8mm thick, 3.5 inch screen is certain to be a big hit this Christmas, calling to mind images of past roll outs of popular electronic gadgets where supply simply cannot keep up with the demand. Adding to the allure of the new iPod is Apple's recent deal with the Starbuck's chain of coffee houses. iPod Touch users will be able to use Starbuck's wireless Internet for free (with Apple's Safari browser) while in the store and will be granted free access to the new iTunes Wi-Fi music store.
Pricing on the new iPod Touch is expected to be $299 US for the 8 gigabyte model while the 16 gigabyte version will sell for slightly more at $399.00. Battery life on the new iPod is expected to be fairly robust with estimates coming in at around 20+ hours per charge with normal use. The Touch also features the ability to determine how you are holding the iPod and will switch from portrait to landscape mode to play wide screen videos and allow you to shuffle through your music collection visually.
Within hours of the announcement of the new iPod Touch, several major electronics retailers already were hawking images of the new player although no purchase or shipping information is currently available.
