When one thinks of the term discount laptop computers one is more often than not referring to the educational discounts offered to students at the start of each school year.  Almost all computer manufacturers offer discounted laptop computers, and often they are the same high quality laptops that people purchase every day at chain stores like Staples and Walmart.  The best time to search for these kinds of deals is at the beginning of the fall school year between July and September, but the key to finding these discounts is knowing where to look and what to ask for to get the best deal.

Where to find educational discount laptop computers:

If you are headed off to college or even if you are taking a single college credit class at a local community college as the registrars office if they know of anyone on staff that assists students with purchasing computers using a student or college discount.  Often these people can be found at the campus book store as well.  Almost all accredited college students can ask for and get discounted laptop computers, often times saving as much as one to two hundred dollars off the normal price of the machine.  Outside of these college connections look around at major computer manufacturer web sites like Apple, Dell, Gateway, and Asus.  All of these companies provide educational discounts on new computers.  Apple in particular often provides at least $100 off of its new computers plus often offers additional perks for buyers to sweeten the deal such as free iPods or free printers.

Even if you are not a student you may still be able to get discount laptop computer pricing if you meet other requirements or if you have someone in your family that does.  Most school teachers for example,  should see if they are eligible for special discounts through their local school districts or through their area education agency's group buying programs.  These discounts often mimick those given to students.  Government employees and employees in certain businesses may also have special deals in place with the major computer makers to provide discounts to workers that have the initiative to seek them out.

If you look hard enough and are willing to jump through a few hoops there are dozens of ways that almost anyone can qualify for discounts on laptop computers and their accessories.  Finding the best deal may take a little work, but saving a couple of hundred dollars on a new computer makes it all worth it in the end.
