If you a re one of the millions of users that has a Gmail account or any kind of Google account (Docs, iGoogle, Orkut, etc.) and also uses the Firefox web browser there are some very useful and powerful add-ons that can make your experience much more productive and simple. Read on for more information about some Firefox add-ons to help organize your Gmail and to turn your Google account into a free online file storage device.
Better Gmail 2
If you use Gmail then the Better Gmail 2 add-on for Firefox is almost a must-have piece of software. While the Gmail interface is good, having Better Gmail 2 installed on your system gives you additional options and features that the normal version does not offer. For example, the Folders4Gmail feature allows you to organize your labels in a heirarchical format, putting labels inside of folders. This is very handy if you have a large number of labels that can be broken up into categories like Friends, Business, and others.
Better Gmail 2 also allows the user to change the name of the tab in Firefox to show how many unread messages you have waiting in your inbox. Perhaps one of the handiest uses for people that do a lot of filtering of messages is the addition of an option that allows a user to "Filter Messages Like This," automatically adding important information to the filter window to create a new filter without having to exit from the message and go into the settings menu.
Gmail Manager
For users that have multiple Gmail accounts the Gmail Manager is a Firefox add-on that sits in the status bar at the bottom of the Firefox window. Clicking on the icon allows a user to quickly switch between multiple Gmail accounts without logging out and logging in under the new name. Simply set up the accounts in the options menu and having multiple accounts is easier than ever.
GSpace
Google gives Gmail users over 5 gigabytes of storage space which is far more than most users will ever need for email messages alone. With the GSpace add-on for Firefox you can turn that extra storage space into a virtual hard drive, uploading files and documents to GMail using a file manager style interface. Simply drag and drop your files to upload or download them to and from Gmail. Uploaded files can be of any type, images, audio files, or even videos. Larger files are more problematic at times, but in general the GSpace works as designed and provides a very nice feature to compliment your Google accounts.
