How many times have you been driving down the road and had a great idea or remembered an important message that you needed to pass on to someone or email to yourself? With no paper and pen handy or else in the middle of rush hour traffic you probably let your mind move on to other matters and then totally forgot about the incredibly important bit of information you wanted to pass on. Now there is a solution that is as simple as speaking into a cell phone.

Free Speech To Text Over Your Cell Phone

Jott is an online service that uses speech recognition technology to transcribe spoken words into typed text and then sends it as a text message to another cell phone or to any email account that has been set up with the service. Jott is free to use, and also works seamlessly with other online services such as Twitter, Google Calendar, and Remember The Milk. Setting up an account at Jott is very easy and the benefits and convenience of the service makes it one of the best free communications applications available.

Transcribed Messages Can Be Sent To Your Email or Web Service

After signing up for an account at Jott a user must verify the primary phone number from which calls will be made. A call from your cell phone to the Jott toll free number confirms the number and allows you to being using the service. To add functionality a user can add important email addresses for friends and other contacts as well as online account information (for posting to Google Calendar, Twitter, etc.) to their profile. Once this is done all a user needs to do is dial the toll free number again and speak in a clear voice. Saying “myself” tells the system that you want to have the message delivered to your own email account. Once the system verifies the intended receiver you speak your message and hang up. The transcriptions are very accurate as long as you are using a clear line without a lot of background noise. Difficult words can be spelled out and the system combines the individual letters back into words as needed.

Once properly set up the Jott system can send new appointments to Google Calendar, post your latest activities to Twitter, or add items to your Remember The Milk to do list. The service is a great time saver for busy people that have a very short term memory. Try it for free at Jott.com.
