Touch sensitive devices are growing more and more popular. With the success of the iPhone, the Zune, and dozens of other devices (both cell phones and mobile media devices), people all over the world are now using their fingers do the navigating. The problem is that all of these devices require the user to touch their bare finger to the screen to get it to work. In colder climates or even in the midwestern United States during the winter months, pulling off your gloves in order to type a text message or answer a phone call can be a frigidly cold inconvenience.
Using An iPhone Or Other Touch Device With Gloves On!
All of the modern touch screen devices use capacitive touch technology. This means that there is a very thin layer of conductive material on top of the LCD screen. The conductor recognizes when a finger touches it, but does not recognize other objects like the lining of your pocket or the fabric that a glove is made of. To solve this some people have started modifying their own gloves by sewing a foot or so of conductive thread into the tip of the index finger of the glove. For those that are not good with a needle and thread or that want to buy something a little more fasionable, you can also find commercially available gloves that already have the conductive thread woven into the fingers.
Dots Gloves is one of the most prominent producers of these iPhone and touch screen friendly gloves. Other iPhone compatible glove makers such as Tavo Products also sell their own versions, but one well known brand known as North Face is available nationwide at hundreds of retailers. All of these gloves cost between $20 and $40 a pair, with the North Face E-Tip gloves being the most well reviewed as well as the most expensive.
For any iPhone or touch screen phone user in a cold weather climate any of these specialty gloves will make working and texting in the cold a much easier and warmer process.
