Firefox is growing to be a serious competitor to Internet Explorer as a very capable, fast, and secure web browser. One of the the things that makes it so powerful and fun to use are the variety of add-ons that can be installed into it to add new functions or conveniences. Listed below is a list of three of my personal favorites that I use every day.
WiseStamp Firefox Add-on
Online webmail is often provided as a free service from sites such as Yahoo, Microsoft, and Google. If you have a Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail account and use it on a regular basis the free Firefox extension WiseStamp is a very useful tool. What it does is automatically add a variety of personally defined signatures to the bottom of you email messages. You can set it up to paste in one signature for personal letters while business emails get a more professional looking signature. It is ideal for users that have several different email accounts forwarded to a single online webmail account.
XMarks Firefox Add-on
For users that tend to use a variety of computers having the same bookmarks and site passwords available regardless of the location is a great thing to have. The Xmarks Firefox add-on syncs all of your bookmarks to a centralized server. Then, any other computer that you use that has Xmarks installed on it can also access those same bookmarks. It is great for people that use one computer at home, use a laptop on the road, and use a third computer while at work. Simply install Xmarks on each of the computers, enter an account name and password, and the bookmarks list of the browser will automatically be populated with the bookmarks from the other computers. Changes on one of the remote computers automatically sync to the other computers on a regular basis. The software also includes a secure password vault, allowing passwords for other web sites to travel with you as well in a very secure manner.
TVFox
For those that want to take their TV with them on the computer TVFox allows users to view broadcasts from around the world without leaving Firefox. This add-on has a list of dozens of television and cable stations from around the world, all of which the user can watch for free anytime of the day or night. Some stations are truly live feed stations while others are off the air at various times of the day or night. The directory of stations is sorted in two ways, either by country of origin or by subject.
