With the vast majority of iPhone apps clocking in at one or two dollars it seems almost insane to consider that there are applications on the iPhone Apps Store that sell for hundreds of dollars.  Could a piece of iPhone software really be worth such a hefty sum?  As with most inflated pricing schemes it all comes down to supply and demand.

The High Cost of Medical... Apps:

It might not surprise a person to know that many of the more expensive iPhone apps are medical related.

Interpath sells for $199.99 and is a way for pathologists, doctors, and other medical professionals to get access to medical images for evaluative purposes.  A similar product called Lexi-Dental complete is used by dentists and sells for one hundred dollars more.

Keeping An Eye On Things:

Surveillance software is another hot commodity in the iPhone app store.  Two of the most expensive applications on record are surveillance apps, with the most expensive of all beingthe $900

iRa, an app that remotely controls high end camera systems found in many secure environments as well as more mundane places like parking garages and hotel lobbies.  A similar app known as Mobile Cam Viewer sells for less than half the price ($349) and controls a variety of different surveillance camera brands.

Speaking...  Easy

Price is often born out of necessity, as is the $189 price tag for Proloquo2go, an iPhone application that is intended to help those with speech impairments to be able to communicate with others while out in the real world.  Common phrases and words are represented on screen as images and a user simply finds what is needed to carry on a conversation.  When something is not in the built in library the user can type in their responses by finger and the app will speak the words back on demand.
