I have learned so much about beauty from my family and friends. Often the best beauty tips do not come from magazines or books. The best tips come from the beautiful women in our lives. Here are just a few timeless tips I have learned form the gorgeous women in my life.
I used to work with my grandma in my early twenties. She is one of those stylish women that always looks beautiful and put together. I asked her once what her secret was. She said,
No matter what I have planned for the day I take a shower, do my hair and make up and get dressed. Whether I am going to eat lunch out or scrub a toilet. I can always shower again later if I have to.
My mother let me wear make up since I was in fifth grade. She only insisted that I know how to wear it and understand what make up was for. My mother told me that make up should blend in with my skin and highlight my beautiful features. She also said that no one should be able to tell that I am wearing make up.
My mother also impressed upon me the importance of a healthy diet and exercise for looking beautiful. Too much sugar, and fried foods make for a ruddy, unhealthy complexion. Exercise can add a beautiful glow to the skin and keeps the body firm in all the right places (including the face!).
My best friend in high school was known for wearing gold metallic wigs and blue lipstick to school. She could also make many wardrobe essentials with a t-shirt, safety pins and a pair of scissors. She taught me that looking beautiful is not for everyone else. Looking beautiful is only to make yourself feel good about who you are. Do not spend too much time worrying about what other people think.
