Great news about wearing stylish shoes! You can wear shoes that look good but are also comfortable and healthy for your feet.

It’s a good idea to go to a store that’s dedicated to selling footwear and has knowledgeable staff to help you with your sizing and selections. Whether you are buying for yourself, or with a family member, remember that sizes vary amongst brands and our feet change as we get older, so get measured every time. We all have one foot bigger than the other, so buy the right size for your bigger foot. You should shop at the end of the day when your feet are largest.

While you will be sitting to try on the shoe, stand and walk around as well to ensure there is a half-inch to spare for your longest toe to move into. Make sure your heel doesn’t slip or rub. Try different widths to ensure maximum comfort and if there are half-sizes available in the style you are choosing, try them on too before making a final decision. Never assume a tight-fitting shoe will stretch with use, as it is unlikely to happen. Look for a shoe that’s got some padding in the sole, as anything that can take some of the impact between your foot and the floor or sidewalk is more comfortable.

Tall heels look beautiful but they really aren’t very comfortable and they throw your balance off as they concentrate your weight on a smaller area than your foot was designed to walk on. Go with lower heels or flats as much as you can, especially if you expect to be on your feet much when you are wearing them. If you are going to a party or an event where you will be mostly seated, than let your fantasy escape and buy a pair of outrageously stylishly high-heeled shoes, but do restrict your use of them to rare occasions. More information on purchasing footwear is available at http://www.wikihow.com/Choose-Comfortable-Dress-Shoes.

If you are buying for babies or very young children, look for shoes which allow for the developing feet of toddlers. They should have a soft but flexible sole made of non-slip rubber and be wide enough for baby’s developing arch. Choose shoes that have elastic lacing or a Velcro closing to allow for lots of room when putting on and taking off.

When shopping for older children, it’s a good idea to go to a store that specializes in foot wear for youngsters as the staff will be well-trained in keeping your youngster amused and interested. Because children grow quickly, you may be tempted to purchase shoes that are more than a size too big, but this could be dangerous, causing them to trip and increasing the possibility of developing foot problems. Kids should wear flat soles which have a pattern or texture to give traction. Open heeled or slip-on shoes are not safe for active children. More information about buying children’s shoes is available at http://shoes.about.com/od/children_baby_shoes/a/childrens_shoes.htm.

If you are an adult who works in a plant where you are handling materials, or if you work in construction, you must ensure you have steel-toed boots with a sole that will give you a good grip. Even weekend do-it-yourselfers should buy a study pair of work boots to guard against slips and falls and prevent punctures. If you are going to be outdoors, choose an insulated boot to keep your feet warm and you may find that need to get a half-size larger than you normally wear. As with all shoes, trying on several pairs from different manufacturers is necessary to ensure a good fit.

Shoes for seniors are becoming more attractive as manufacturers have answered the call for sensible shoes that are also stylish. Remember to ensure there is proper arch support and that there is plenty of room for your toes to move around.

The best rule when buying shoes is to be sensible and to spend what is necessary to ensure you have a good fit and that the shoes are safe. With a little clever planning and careful shopping your feet will be stylishly outfitted and you can enjoy your everyday activities comfortably and completely.
