You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to improve or maintain a great wardrobe. It matters not whether you have a lot of money or only a little to invest in clothing, you can dress attractively and stylishly for work, leisure, and evening events.
You are probably like most people and dress conservatively, purchasing suits or skirts and pants in nice neutral tones. One really effective way to freshen up your wardrobe is to buy brighter colours when you purchase a variety of blouses, sweaters or shirts to go with them. Don’t be afraid to add a splash of red in a turtle neck or a pretty yellow blouse to go with that black, brown or navy business suit. Purchasing scarves in brighter colours can dress up an outfit too, as can vests and a cardigan sweater, and a brighter shade of lipstick can do wonders.
Secondly, keep a little notepad in your closet and when you think of an item that would enhance an outfit, write it down, then watch for sales at your favourite store. As each season approaches, the retail market throws some great bargains your way and you’ll likely be able to buy two or three pieces for the price of one! Sales happen throughout the year too, so be on the lookout. A series of videos at http://Video.aol.com/Video-detail/dress-to-impress-for-less-daily-fashion-on-a-budget--bohemian-style-daily-fashion-on-a-budget/149660250 illustrates how to combine your clothing and accessory items to create a new look.
As well, it’s a smart idea to save a few dollars from each paycheque towards a new outfit – or two – every year. Consider shopping at a boutique that is individually-owned and strike up a relationship with the proprietor. She or he will be thinking of your size and style preferences on buying trips and some will even call you when an outfit arrives at the store that seems just right for you!
If you wear glasses, invest in a new funky pair, or two, as many lens distributors have two-for-one specials. You will be ready for anything from a dress-up affair to casual events. If you don’t wear glasses, consider adding cool sunglasses to your wardrobe accessories.
Good shoes are a necessity. Purchase a variety of styles and colours, and know before you leave home to shop what you really need to go with several outfits in your closet. Occasionally, you may want to purchase one pair that matches only one dress or suit, but that’s not really a wise choice of money expenditure! Allow yourself a few funky pairs of high heels if you like, but remember that they are not a wise choice if you are wearing them for long periods of time as they have been proven to be unhealthy for your back and your balance.
And don’t be afraid to check out second hand clothing stores. Find one that offers clean, gently-used items and you’ll be amazed at how often they have new items too. Even if you just buy casual wear at a vintage shop, what you save can go towards your dress or work wardrobe. Often you can get a pair of sweats, a new blouse, jeans, or summer dresses for five dollars each or less.
Finally, have your hair cut tastefully and keep it freshly washed and conditioned. Change your style frequently. Many hair salons charge outrageous prices, but if you check around at the discount shops you can often find a stylist who you can get to know and trust. As well, look good with a clear complexion and stress-free features from eating healthy, drinking lots of water, and getting enough sleep. Do everything you can to look great and you’ll feel confident and ready to meet whatever life throws your way.
