Often I have women tell me that they hate to shop! Oh the horror! Just kidding. I think shopping well is a skill. You have to be in the right right frame of mind. Here are tips on how to shop and make it more enjoyable.
- Most clothes do not look good on most people. Learn to recognize clothing styles that flatter you. So quit feeling bad when things do not look right. Just be prepared to try a lot of clothes on.
- When trying on clothes dress for it. I mean if you are going to tops lets say, wear the bra you would probably wear with those tops. If you are trying on pants wear underwear that looks good under pants.
- Do not buy anything. Shopping is sometimes just research. Half the time or more you really should go home with nothing. Start a notebook. Try and on clothes and take notes on what you did and did not like about what you tried on. Better yet take a digital camera and take photos of yourself in the dressing room mirror.
- The worst time to shop for an event is right before. So, shop early and often. Then the pressure is off or at least way less anyway.
- Only go to some places for something. I only go to Old Navy for pants and jeans. I only go to Victoria Secret for bras and panties. Why? Well, not because they are the cheapest but, because they have clothes that fit me that I know I like. Other things like tops, shoes, dresses and socks I like to shop around and try on at different places.
- Get rid of stuff. If you are overwhelmed shopping for new clothes undoubtedly you are over whelmed at the site of your own closet. Every so often go in there and get rid of ten things like shoes, pants, old underwear, shirts or a skirt. If it doesn't fit get it out of there!
