We all k now that when the weather appears to get just a few degrees warmer the stores whip out the dreaded suit: the bathing suit that is. Most times we have not even begun to think about that part of the year because for some of us, it is still snowing outside. Well now it is time to truly start thinking about it because summer is just around the corner and no matter how you feel about it, you need to face your fears and I am just the gal for the job.
There are a lot of bikinis out there which is what puts some women off because not all of us can wear one, me included. However there is a way around it. You can still purchase a two piece swimsuit, but you can get one that will cover you from your chest to your thighs. This is the path I chose last year and that way I can still say I can wear a two piece, but I don’t have to expose my mid-section.
Here are a couple examples of this type of swimsuit:
- Striped tankini with skirted bottom by Nautica.
- Xhilarations Princess Fiona Sweet Top (Navy/White) can be paired with the matching bottoms.
If a two-piece is just not your cup of tea, then try these one-piecers:
- Surplice wrap tank suit by L.L. Bean.
- Strapless maillot from the Anne Cole Collection.
- Merona Slimmer Rouched 1pc (black).
Whether you go with a two or one piece swimsuit just keep a few things in mind:
- Swimsuits run smaller, so if you’re normally a size 8 don’t expect to fit into a size 8 swimsuit. You will probably fit into a size 9 or 10. So don’t freak out when you have to choose a suit that’s two sizes bigger then what you normally wear.
- Make sure to leave yourself some time when you do go swimsuit shopping. If you buy a lot of suits and you’ve got it down to a science then you’re a pro, but most of us avoid it like the plague….so leave yourself ample time to try numerous suits on.
- If you’re ordering a suit online, make sure to check out if it’s designed for someone with a longer torso or fuller hips, things like that. You want to make sure you’re getting the right suit for your shape and size.
So embrace the inevitable and don’t hide behind a large t-shirt when you go to the pool, but do make sure you find a swimsuit you’re comfortable in. Also, make sure the suit covers you appropriately. It’s ok to show your body off, but you want to leave something to the imagination. Finally make sure to give yourself a pep talk before you head out on your shopping adventure: just because you’re not a size 4 doesn’t mean you don’t have the right to a nice, flattering, and ego-boosting swimsuit. Enjoy this summer with your new suit!
