Keeping your skin healthy is a task that can be very challenging to achieve. So many skin care products contain harsh chemicals and only offer some temporary relief for problem skin. However, this attempt at a solution doesn’t last long. There are healthy ways to keep your skin glowing and soft. This includes a mix of lifestyle choices that can help your skin go from rough and unnatural to healthy skin.

Six healthy ways to take care of your skin are:

  1. Eat Healthy- A proper diet is the most important part of  keeping your skin healthy. The foods that we eat have the ingredients to make our skin oily, rough, or even scaly. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is essential to maintaining that healthy looking skin and also a healthy physique overall. A strong body that is given the right fuel can fight illness and disease and make you a stronger person. That includes your skin!
  2. Drink Lots of Water- You may not know it, but water helps flush out the toxins that are agents for unhealthy skin. Not only are you hydrating yourself by drinking lots of water, but you are getting healthier skin! Oils are created from the sweat you create. Eight glasses a day is the minimum you should be drinking to keep your skin in tip top health.
  3. Moisturize- This cannot be stressed enough. Having moisturizer in your home will alleviate any possibilities of skin damage. Keeping your skin soft and smooth through moisturizers is the best you can possibly do. Try a variety of moisturizers to see which is right for you, but I recommend fragrance free with a light SPF for added skin protection.
  4. Cleanse - You may be tired at the end of the day, but it is important to take a few minutes to wash your make-up off. Men, this goes for you as well. Take a minute to wash your face and get rid of the grime from your work day or that afternoon at the baseball game.  Use a gentle soap or cleanser and warm water and make sure to rinse your face. And don't forget your neck, too!
  5. Avoid Smoking and Drinking - Years of smoking and alcohol consumption will show on your face. The best way to avoid looking older prematurely? Avoid smoking and drinking.
  6. Use Sunscreen - Make sure to use a sunscreen with the highest SPF factor (the higher the number the more protection against the harmful rays of the sun you have!)

There are no miracle cures for healthier skin, but by incorporating the above three healthy practices into your life there will be significant improvement in your skin health. Look in  your local health food store for a good all natural moisturizer that is not tested on animals. Good brand name moisturizers available from drug stores include: Nutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream, Aveeno Ultra Calming Daily Moisturizer and Olay Complete All Day Moisture Lotion.
