Did you know that although your personal care products say “natural,” most of them are full of toxic chemicals that harm both you and the environment?  If you use personal care products such as shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant, skin care products and cosmetics, you need to be vigilant about the chemicals that may be lurking within.  For example, phthalates, found in products like mascara and shaving cream, have been linked with feminization of male infants.  Going one step further, these products are also causing feminization of fish once they get rinsed down the drain or flushed down the toilet after being excreted from our bodies.

It is important to stop and consider what we are putting in and on our bodies because the toxic products we use affect not only our health, but the health of our children, our pets and many living things in our environment.  Why not try some natural solutions that will make you look and feel great and will be good for the planet too?

1.Drink plenty of pure water
It is true that beauty comes from within.  When you drink 8 to 10 glasses of water  per day you will rehydrate your skin, giving it vitality and elasticity.  It also removes toxins and wastes from your    body.  Remember, though, that if you drink caffeinated beverages, you need to drink two cups of water for every cup of coffee, tea or pop because they will dehydrate you.

2. Cucumber
Much like water, cucumber hydrates your skin.  It is also a good source of silicon, which  the skin looking healthy.  In addition to eating  or juicing cucumbers, you can use fresh cucumber slices on your eyes to reduce puffiness.

3. Clay Face Mask

Your skin will love this natural moisturizer:

1/4 cup cucumber, peel and chopped
1/4 cup avocado flesh
3 tablespoons of water
1 tablespoon lemon juice (squeezed from lemon)
1 teaspoon honey
Add:
8-9 tablespoons Clay powder

Using the food processor, mix cucumber and avocado with water and lemon juice. Add
oats and honey.  Mix until smooth.  Pour mixture into a bowl and use a whisk to mix in
the clay.  Put mask on clean face and leave on for 20-30 minutes.  Rinse off.  Repeat 1-2
times per week. http://www.aromantic.com/face-masks.htm

4. Cabbage Mask
Extract juice from a couple of cabbage leaves.. Add ¼ teaspoon of yeast in it and stir in one teaspoon of    honey. Mix well and apply thickly over face and neck.  After 15 minutes, wash it off. This is a great way to
prevent wrinkles and dry skin.

5. Use natural shampoos and conditioners
Avoid shampoos that contain sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate. It is a dangerous chemical that irritates the skin, can damage to the hair follicle and can even cause damage to the liver. Burt’s Bees and Giovanni are two brands that contain all natural ingredients and leave your hair looking beautiful.  If you are creative you can experiment with ingredients from you kitchen.  Find out more at http://www.pioneerthinking.com/of_beautybasics.HTML
