If you’re scared by the candy invading your home, office, school and every business you walk into, I understand!
It can be hard to stick with a healthy eating plan when candy is staring you down everywhere you turn.
While it may seem impossible to keep your hand out of the candy jar, it’s not impossible. Read on for some simple solutions to common trick or treat blunders and which candies are not so spooky.
Halloween Blunder #1: Candy at the office. Talk with your office mates and come up a few boundries. For example, vow to keep candy in one area (but not in the breakroom) or ask officemates to bring in non-traditional items such as apple slices with low calorie caramel dip, whole wheat pretzels, mini boxes of raisins, individual packs of trail mix or 100 calorie packs of low-fat microwave popcorn. The more you are faced with candy, the more you will eat. Having to walk further will keep your hand out of the candy jar!
Halloween Blunder #2: Kid's candy at home. Do not shop early for candy and buy candy that is not a favorite - this way you're less likely to dip into the candy bag before Halloween even hits. Also, set rules that apply to whole family. You probably don't want your kids wired on candy everyday - make it a rule that everyone is allowed one piece of candy after dinner or packed with lunch. This keeps candy consumption moderate which saves calories and sanity!
Halloween Blunder #3: Halloween Parties. Chances are you might be attending several Halloween parties - one at school, one at a friends and one at the office. What to do when faced with so many temptations? Set a few goals ahead of time such as bringing a healthy dish or snack to share, adding an extra 10 minutes of exercise that day and making exercise mandatory, keeping a food record or prioritzing which parties you really must attend.
