Spring h as sprung! The impending arrival of April brings a lot of new things to the table, the prospect of warmer weather, outdoor activities, flowers in bloom, and…a spring cleanse!

Spring is definitely the time to freshen up your body. If you make it an annual tradition to scour your home during bouts of spring cleaning, why not clean your body too? The coming of a new season also tends to cause those unfortunate side effects that occur when flowers blossom and trees start to bud—namely, allergies and springtime colds. Yoga is a great way to detox your body from the cold winter months and help avoid those pesky seasonal illnesses.

Most forms of exercise help to stimulate the digestive and elimination system, but yoga is particularly helpful if you are looking to really get down and dirty. Since yoga emphasizes the systematic stretching and compression of the internal organs, you’re keeping the waste-removing parts of the body in tip-top shape without even knowing it!

In a well-rounded yoga practice, every organ in your body is pushed, twisted, and pulled so that all of the toxins are expelled from your deep tissues and organs. Yoga postures are particularly useful for cleansing the liver, which is the trickiest organ to clean due to all the toxins in the body. So, if you are looking to detox your body, boost your immune system, and prevent disease, check out these yoga moves that will help you feel happy and healthy:

Spinal twist – is one of the most effective postures to stimulate proper digestion because it squeezes your abdominal organs.

Downward-facing dog – by putting your heart above your head, you are reversing the pull of gravity. As a consequence, your circulatory system (particularly the circulation of your blood and lymph) is given a great workout.

Legs up the wall – although this pose is as easy as it sounds, it’s a really good posture for your whole body! It encourages circulation in the legs, brings fresh blood to the abdomen, and stimulates the digestive system. It’s also a great way to soothe your nervous system, which allows your body to focus on keeping itself healthy, rather than stress relief.

This spring, why not clean your house AND keep your body healthy with some cleansing yoga?
