Coffee and Stress
Coffee doesn’t make you alert—it chemically induces stress and the stress keeps you alert. The constant stress of several cups of coffee each day produces a depletion of your adrenal system, and wrecks your sleep patterns.
Carcinogens
Coffee contains over a dozen carcinogens including benzene and formaldehyde—10 milligrams of carcinogens in each cup. Now it’s true that there are carcinogens in just about all foods if you look closely enough, and a person with a healthy diet eats enough antioxidants to counteract a reasonable amount of carcinogens. But is the average coffee-holic eating a healthy diet and gobbling up antioxidant fruits and veggies? Not likely! It’s also true that some of the chemicals in coffee protect us from some forms of cancer.
Women and Coffee
For women the situation is even worse. Everyone knows how dependent women are on their hormone cycles for health and happiness. Coffee produces estrogen dominance which disturbs that precious hormone balance. Dr. Michael Lam of the American Academy of Anti-aging Research reports that in a small study of 500 women, those who consumed four or five cups of coffee per day had 70% more estrogen that those who drank less than one cup per day.
Acid Base Balance
Coffee makes the body more acid. The acid-base balance of the body affects hundreds of bodily functions in men and women. The body is designed to be slightly base with a pH of 7.4. All the delicate biochemistry in the body is dependent on the ion levels that exist in that state. But if you drive the pH down into the sixes, the biochemistry has to work harder and harder with fewer resources until illness starts to occur. Just one of the byproducts is a loss of calcium making bones more fragile. This is a great concern in older women.
Pesticides
Some pesticides that are regularly used in coffee plantations include Aldrin, Dieldrin, Chlordane and Heptachlor. Coffee beans may be the most significant source of these toxins in our diets.
Summary
Coffee produces stress, disrupts the body’s biochemistry, and contains pesticides and carcinogens. If it just didn’t smell so good!
