Developed as a revolution in psychotherapy, the Emotional Freedom technique (EFT) is a useful therapy for physical and emotional ailments. It is based on the principles of acupuncture which has a history going back thousands of years but thankfully uses no needles, just finger-pressure and affirmations.

It is based on the idea that physical and emotional ailments are related to irregularities in the energy meridians of the body and therefore these ailments can be relieved by finger-tapping on certain points along the meridians. How it works is unclear, but it does work consistently and quickly for many people. It is not a panacea, but it is an inexpensive and non-intrusive way to deal with any emotional or physical problem that doesn't seem to want to go away.

Specific emotional issues that the EFT documentation refers to as examples include: Addictions, Allergies, Anger, Blood pressure, Depression, Fears and Phobias, Pain Relief, Performance issues with school or sports, Sexual dysfunction, Trauma and Weight loss. It has been used for virtually every emotional issue.

People with cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and many other diseases have been helped by EFT.

Practitioners are often psychologists and can be found in all English-speaking countries and many other countries around the world. It can be self-taught and used personally but the EFT organization advises people to use trained professionals where available. Pain is rarely a problem but does occur with deep-seated emotional traumas.

The EFT organization has an advisory board of seventeen doctors, twelve of whom are medical doctors. EFT is endorsed by Drs. Deepak Chopra, Candace Pert and Norm Shealy among others.
