Accordin g to an English proverb, the eyes are the window to the soul. While the study of Iridology doesn’t confirm this proverb, it does stipulate that the eyes can help to diagnose and cure disease. If you have a health ailment that your physician is having trouble diagnosing, an iridologist might be able to help!

Iridology is based on the belief that every organ in the human body corresponds to a part of the iris. If you look at your eyes in the mirror, the iris is the colored part of your eye that works to regulate the amount of light that enters your eyes. By examining your iris, iridologists can determine whether a certain organ is healthy. Every fiber, color, or pattern is believed to have a correlation with a specific disease or an unhealthy organ. By studying the patient’s eye, the iridologists make conclusions about your general state of health, as well as predict future problems.

A Hungarian physician, Ignatz von Peczeley, came up with the concept of Iridology in the 19th century. He noticed that a patient with a broken leg had a dark streak in his eyes, which reminded him of a similar dark streak in the eyes of an owl with a broken leg. He then proceeded to document corresponding eye markings and diseases in his other patients and began to map out the parts of the eye.  For example, if an iridologist wants to know about the health of a patient’s thyroid gland, he/she examines the part of the iris that corresponds to the gland. Discolorations, streaks, or color flecks will tell the iridologist if the gland is functioning properly.

By looking at your eyes, iridologists are also able to recognize:

  • Toxins and their locations
  • Inflammation
  • Strengths and weaknesses in the body
  • The patient’s general level of health
  • Biochemical deficiencies

Iridology helps diagnose, rather than treat, disease. For this reason, you should consult in iridologist in conjunction with your regular physician.
