Heated Yoga also known as Birkram Yoga is a practice where yogis do yoga poses in a room heated to 95 to 105 degrees. This practice is great for detoxing the body, warming the muscles to get added flexibility, and is a power filled workout. Many heated yoga, sometimes called Bikram Yoga classes, use the Bikram Series of poses. The Bikram Series of poses are twenty six carefully chosen poses used in a specific sequence, using form specific to the sequence, and were put together by the founder of Bikram Yoga Guru Bikram Choudhury.

Bikram Yoga Class Tips

1.Make sure you are hydrated well before you take the class. Start drinking water several hours before class.
2.Practice Heated Yoga on an empty stomach. The heat can make you nauseous and eating too much before class can make exaggerate that. If you must eat make it a light meal an hour or more before the start of the class.
3.During class you will sweat a lot! Wear breathable sweat absorbing cloths.
4.Make sure to bring a towel. As stated before you will sweat a lot and you may need a towel to wipe you and your mat if it gets slick from your sweat.
5.Bring water. You need to replace that moisture loss in the body. Sip during class and drink lots of water after class.
6.Be prepared for discomfort especially the first few Heated Yoga sessions. Some people experience headache, nausea or lethargy after the first class or two.
7.To really experience the detoxifying and other positive effects of Heated yoga it is important to practice consistently at least once a week for three to four weeks.
8.Make sure that you rest if you need to in class. Set the ego aside and know your limits. If you feel over heating find a resting posture and then resume the class only when you feel ready to do so.
9.The heat helps soften the muscles so that you may go deeper into some poses. For the first few classes be careful not to over stretch.
10.Let the instructor know you are new to Heated Yoga so they can help make your experience safe and somewhat pleasant.

Hang in there and give heated yoga a chance. Stick it out at least a few sessions and you may find heated very addicting. More questions on Heated yoga? Check here.
