Want to waste money? No..seriously..do you want to blow your budget on ridiculous gifts? Trying to find that unique gift for the person who has everything can result in purchasing gadgets that come with a single purpose: to encourage laziness. These "unitasker" items often have an un-green side to them as they are almost always made of plastic and use batteries or electricity.

Most of us have caught the cheesy T.V. infomercials where if you call the number on your screen within 10 minutes you will receive double the quantity plus something like a free Ginsu knife!  But a quick glance these days in any kitchen store will reveal that they also have a good stock of kitschy products that no modern cook could possibly be without.

Take for instance the One-Click Butter Cutter which is priced at around $18. What's wrong with a regular knife? At least it can be used for more than just one task while the butter cutter can't cut anything other than butter. Besides, what happens to butter once it is on the toast? Won't a knife be required to spread the butter?

On the other hand if you see the butter cutter as an essential tool then you may want to add an OXO Avocado Slicer, an herb snipper and salad scissors to your shopping list.

Here are a few others gadgets that might give you a chuckle:

Lem-O Saver It's a plastic container with a small strap that keeps lemons fresh after they've been cut. It makes your lemon look a bit like "Silence of the Lambs'" Hannibal Lecter wearing a mask.

Wrapping the cut lemon in some plastic wrap and putting it in the fridge will do just as good a job. There is also a similar product for garlic which is bizarre as garlic will last for weeks without refrigeration.

Bonjour Salad Chef - It is a jar with a battery operated whisk attached that blends oil and vinegar. It seems that putting the ingredients in a regular container and shaking them up is too complicated and strenuous for today's cooks.

Rather than giving a friend or relative a tool of questionable usefulness that will likely gather dust in a kitchen drawer, consider other ways of spending your hard earned cash for Christmas this year. One suggestion is to make a donation in your friend or relative's name to a charity where your money will be put to good use.
