Put your table at center stage at your next dinner party, with creative centerpieces that can add style and ambiance to your dinner party.  A creative centerpiece can pull together your room décor and table settings, as well as add to the theme of your dinner.

Get creative! Think beyond flowers and candles!  A creative centerpiece can be anything that adds embellishment to your table.

Keep it low if you have a table full of people. You don’t want your centerpiece to block people’s views of each other or impede conversation.

If you’re using candles in a centerpiece, use only unscented. Your candle centerpiece shouldn’t interfere with the aroma of the delicious food you’ve prepared.

A centerpiece doesn’t have to be one single item in the center of the table. Spread your centerpiece out by arranging small groups of candles at different heights or lining up Mason jars or other small vases from one end of the table to the next.

Theme Centerpieces

If your dinner has a theme, run with it! If you’re serving Mexican, set a sombrero in the center of your table and decorate the rim with fruit, flowers and chili peppers.

At Thanksgiving dinner, fill a cornucopia with fresh fruit and vegetables.

Hosting a team dinner? Make planters out of track shoes or cut-open soccer balls, basketballs or footballs.

An Easter dinner table gets a breath of spring with shallow baskets filled with colorful grasses and eggs.

Bring the Outdoors In

Take a walk outside your back door. Bring in pine cones, acorns, colorful leaves and even branches. Combined with pillar candles, these natural elements can become an elegant centerpiece.

For a beach theme centerpiece, sprinkle sand on a dinner plate and arrange pillar candles and seashells.

If you grow your own herbs, snip some and bring them in for a centerpiece bouquet.

Edible Centerpieces

It's all about the food, right? Make your centerpiece part of your menu, so it won't only look good, it'll taste good! If you have young people at your table, make a candy centerpiece.  Get a Styrofoam cone and use straight pins to stick fun-sized candy bars, Hershey kisses, or whatever wrapped candy you choose to the cone.  Add ribbons and other decorations as you like.

Fruit centerpieces are pretty, too. Make small skewers of pineapple chunks, kiwi, strawberries and other fruit, and stick them into a Styrofoam shape. Mix in skewers of cheese for an edible dessert centerpiece.

Other Centerpiece Ideas

Martha Stewart has dozens of centerpiece ideas like this one:  Use a mirror as the base for a centerpiece to add sparkle and a soft glow to your table.

HGTV has some great ideas for theme centerpieces - a goldfish bowl, floating candles, a teapot vase for a tea party and a stack of books centerpiece for a graduation party.  And check out the site’s ideas for Thanksgiving centerpieces, unusual spring centerpieces, and a classic floral centerpiece.

Take a tip from the wedding planners.  FavorIdeas.com has some fun ideas for wedding centerpieces that can easily be adapted for your own table at home. Find out how to use board games, cupcakes and journals to center your table!

AwesomeEvent.com has supplies and suggestions for many theme centerpiece ideas.  Try sprinkling some confetti around your table centerpiece for some added sparkle!
