A Halloween party or just a fun dinner party in October can have a touch of wit and whimsy with a Halloween centerpiece on the table. A creative haunted house centerpiece, glowing jack-o-lanterns, or a skeleton stretched out in the middle of the table can make any table the center of attention. Pull together some Halloween decorations and create a Halloween centerpiece using some of these ideas.
Halloween Jack-o-Lantern Centerpiece
A scary, smoking jack-o-lantern is a simple centerpiece that will have a spooky effect for the length of the party. Carve a pumpkin with a scary Halloween face, keeping the mouth opening as narrow as you can (a wide open mouth will cause the dry ice to not flow up into the eye openings). Place a tin can or glass full of water inside. Using gloves, place a piece of dry ice into the water rand watch the steam come out of the jack-o-lantern’s eyes, nose and mouth.
Always follow dry ice safe handling instructions whenever using dry ice. Be especially careful that children are not nearby or unsupervised. Dry ice can cause serious burns and must be handled with care.
Haunted House Halloween Centerpiece
A plain, wooden unfinished birdhouse found at craft stores can be turned into a haunted house with creative results. Paint the birdhouse black with orange, purple and green trim for a Halloween effect. Add black glitter and Halloween craft decorations. Attach fake spider webs with a little bit of glue and stretch them to a piece of tablecloth 6-12 inches away from the bird house. Attach a large black raven to the top of the birdhouse.
If you want the haunted house to look more like a real house, plug the opening with wood filler, add a chimney, and paint the entire house black. Paint or glue on windows and doors and add Halloween effects.
Halloween Skeleton Centerpiece
Skeletons decorate many a front yard during Halloween, and they can be used indoors on the table in the same way. Stretch out a near-life-sized plastic skeleton down the middle of your table, securing a hand on a head and crossed legs with sticky Velcro squares.
Create a bone yard scene by taking apart a plastic skeleton and arranging bones around the table. Place the skull in the center with spider webs and candles surrounding it.
Pumpkin Planter
A simple and easy Halloween centerpiece is using a pumpkin shell as a planter or vase to hold flowers. Simply cut a large hole in the top and hollow out the pumpkin. Place a container of water inside and arrange sunflowers, daisies, chrysanthemums and other fall flower stems.
A potted chrysanthemum can be placed directly inside the hollowed out pumpkin shell. If the pumpkin is too deep, place an upside down bowl into the pumpkin and set the mum pot on top to give it height.
Halloween Candle Centerpieces
Candles, all by themselves, can have a spooky Halloween effect, if arranged right and in a darkened room. A silver candelabra with black taper candles and some spider webs attached will make your table look like it’s in a haunted house. Use a combination of jack-o-lanterns with candles inside and black and orange pillar candles and stretch them end to end on the table.
