Roll out the red carpet, get the camera ready, and shine the spotlight on your little movie buff. A Hollywood movie theme party for kids is full of fantasy, glitz and glamour for the guest of honor as well as all the party guests.

Shoot for the stars and make your occasion just like a real Oscar party with ginger ale served in plastic champagne glasses, low lights and music.  Take lots of vamped up photos of the young stars. A cardboard cut-out of a movie star is the perfect prop for poses for photographs. Have another parent or helper do interviews with the stars, using a boom box recorder with a microphone.  "Who are you wearing?" "Garanimals!"

Make It a Red Carpet Event

Place a "red carpet" from the front curb to the front door, so when your glamorous party guests arrive, they'll walk to the door in style. In lieu of a real red carpet, cut red disposable plastic table clothes in half lengthwise and staple them together end to end to make a long red carpet.

For a lit runway, make homemade luminaria using candles in white paper bags.  A nearby boom box playing a recording of cheers, clapping and whistles, along with some camera flashes, will make your party guests feel like they're the star of the show.

Make Some Hollywood Handprints

Just like on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, your party guests can become like their favorite immortal movie stars and leave their handprints in cement.  A movie star handprint cement stepping stone is a fun (messy, but fun!) party activity and a great take-home party gift.

Craft and toy stores have cement stepping stone kits that come complete with molds, cement and instructions. Each stepping stone has room for a child's handprints plus some embellishments. Have some gold metallic stars on hand to place one at the top of each stepping stone, right above the child's hand prints.

Make the Kids Real Movie Stars

With a simple video camera, your party guests can star in their own movie. Have another parent or helper videotape the entire party, from the guests walking down the red carpet, to the star interviews, the opening of the gifts to the last piece of cake.

Your party guests can make a short movie. Short screenplays and scripts for kids are available on the Internet or at your public library. Make copies for everyone, assign roles and after a short rehearsal, film the impromptu movie scene.

Hollywood Oscar Party Food

What would you be served at an Oscar party? Endless glasses of champagne (ginger ale served in plastic champagne flutes), petit fours (mini Oreos served on a tray with a lace doily), canapés (peanut butter and jelly on white bread cut into star shapes with a star cookie cutter. If you're showing a movie, don't forget popcorn, Raisinets and Jujubees.

Movie Buff Party Decorations

Inflatable Oscar statues, "Celebrities Only" tape and other Hollywood glamour and glitz decorations can be found at party supply stores, through Oriental Trading, PartyCheap.com and other online resources.
