FedEx is really a great service. You can mail things from one part of the world to another in a speedy and efficient manner. All sorts of things, really. A care-package for a member of your family, a t-shirt that you ordered from a catalogue, and…illegal drugs.
Cameron Douglas, the 30 year-old spawn of star Michael Douglas, was famously busted earlier this week for selling crystal meth. His other claims to fame date back to 2007 when he was arrested for cocaine possession, and in 2003 when he appeared in “It Runs in the Family” alongside Michael and grandfather Kirk Douglas.
Apparently Cameron was a big-shot dealer, traveling coast to coast dealing large quantities of methamphetamine before he was arrested last month. The Drug Enforcement Administration filed a report against the younger Douglas, explaining the details of his “business” that has been going on since 2006.
Aside from the fact that Cameron is the son of a celebrity, this story wouldn’t be especially note-worthy. However, we have to raise our collective eyebrows when we learned exactly how Douglas trafficked the drugs, which were referred to as “pastry” or “bath-salts” during transactions. Let’s just say we’re really glad that we’re not FedEx representatives right now.
The court papers reveal that Douglas would exchange cash and drugs through mail services like FedEx. One particular document states that, "in 2007, according to another cooperator, Douglas was paid $48,000 at a Manhattan apartment. The cooperator later received a pound of crystal meth through FedEx from Santa Barbara, Ca."
Don’t they have drug-sniffing dogs for this kind of thing? How lax does FedEx security have to be in order to allow illegal drugs to be shipped completely undetected?
Regardless, Cameron Douglas has a long legal battle ahead of him. Three witnesses (including both drug users and dealers) have come to testify against him. Selling crystal meth is a pretty big deal. We don’t think that his famous father can bail him out of this one!
