In some tragic news, John Travolta’s 16-year old son, Jett, died from a seizure last week while on a family vacation in the Bahamas. Travolta’s lawyer attributes Jett’s death to the little-known Kawasaki disease, but it seems that people just can’t stop questioning you when you’re a celebrity Scientologist.

The Travolta family has been denying for years that their son was autistic, but when left untreated, doctors say that autism can trigger seizures. Skeptics insist that Jett actually died from seizures related to autism, a condition that some say is not recognized by Scientologists. Rumor has it that the Church secretly believes that mental illness is a psychosomatic condition and as such, should not be treated with medication. Instead, they allegedly advocate spiritual healing to as a cure for mental illnesses.

According to the Travolta family, the seizures that Jett had been experiencing were very serious, with Jett frequently losing consciousness or convulsing. The lawyers say that Jett had been on anti-seizure medication for several years, but the family stopped administrating it when it had eventually lost its effectiveness. Tommy Davis, a spokesman for the Church of Scientology, backs up Travolta’s claims that he did attempt medicate his son, stating that “the bottom line is that Scientologists seek conventional medical treatment for medical conditions”.

Regardless of what condition caused Jett’s death, the whole situation is just so sad. Fellow Scientologist, Lisa Marie Presley, spoke out on her blog against this most recent attack on Scientology and the Jett Travolta tragedy, stating that the public should “not use the tragic death of a child to facilitate (their) insatiable need to attack and destroy Scientology”.

John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston also have an 8 year-old daughter, Ella Blue. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Travolta family during this horrible time.
