There ar e wedding bells in the future of Ivanka Trump and boyfriend Jared Kushner, owner of the “New York Observer”. The daughter of real estate mogul Donald Trump is set to wed her long-time boyfriend at an undisclosed date.
How did the heiress break the news? Twitter, of course! She tweeted last Thursday that “I got engaged last night…truly the happiest day of my life!!!” Kushner apparently surprised Trump with a 5.22 carat cushion cut diamond with a platinum and diamond mounting from her signature jewelry line, Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry.
Kushner earned his fortune in real estate working with his father, Charles Kushner, who served time in prison for federal felony charges. At the ripe old age of 25, Jared purchased the “New York Observer”, a weekly newspaper that has gained popularity with the New York elite, for a cool $10 million.
Trump is no slouch herself. Co-hosting with her father on a few “Apprentice” episodes, she is also the current Vice President of Real Estate Development and Acquisitions for the Trump Organization. Aside from her business stints, she has made her way down fashion runways for such notable companies as Versace and Marc Bouwer. While I’m certainly happy for the future newly-weds, I ask—where is MY silver spoon?
So, how are the families of the happy couple reacting to the news? Kushner’s parents, who sent their son to private Orthodox Jewish day schools, were reportedly not pleased that Trump was not Jewish. The couple split briefly back in 2008, reportedly because of the Kushner family concerns that their son was not marrying into the religion. Trump is solving the problem by studying for conversion. She joked, “I'm a New Yorker, I'm in real estate. I'm as close to Jewish, with an 'i-s-h' naturally as anyone can start off." Nice to know that the daughter of the dlj has a sense of humor.
As for the Trumps, the Donald told UsMagazine that “I’m very happy about it. They make a magnificent couple”. So far, the couple has the Trump seal of approval, but Donald was supposedly not happy about his daughter marrying into the family of a formerly incarcerated patriarch.
Why does the relationship work? Surprise, surprise—“Jared and I are very similar in that we’re very ambitious”, Ivanka told reporters. “That's what makes it so amazing to be in a relationship with someone who is supportive of that. I'm happy for him when he is in the office working late. I know how good that feels when you sit down and return e-mails." This is surely a match made in heaven.
