Steve Jobs received a liver transplant two months ago. Now we know what was wrong. Speculation is that It was pancreatic cancer. Reports are still sketchy and an actual diagnosis and/or prognosis is unknown. He has been away from Apple Inc. for months now, and while we do not yet know what the diagnosis or prognosis is, we do know that he is doing well and is expected to return to work at the end of June.
Apple spokesperson Katie Cotton said “Steve continues to look forward to returning at the end of June, and there’s nothing further to say.”
There is obviously some upset among shareholders who feel that they should have been told what was happening with his health. They feel that the health was material information, but really only needed to be disclosed if the company was going to make the shareholders make important decisions based on the information at hand. Legal advisors say that once Steven Jobs is back at work the company will have to careful about what it reveals about his health.
In 2004 Steven Jobs said he had been diagnosed with and cured of a rare form of pancreatic cancer called islet cell neuroendocrine tumor. The National Institute of Health says that removal of a portion of the liver is part of that type of cancer.
