Today’s health-conscious and green consumers are spending more time in the “organic” aisles of their local grocery store. Shopping carts are being filled with alternative menu items, locally-grown fruits and vegetables and range-free meat. And, good for them! These are far better choices for you and your family; however, are you, as a consumer, also carefully considering the diet of your pet?
Your furry or feathered friend deserves the very best so insist on providing a healthier menu. Scour the racks at your neighbourhood pet store, read the ingredient lists of available products and choose those which are grain-free, low-fat, preservative-free and made without artificial ingredients. If your pet store doesn’t stock such produce, speak to the store manager and ask him/her to order some healthier brands in … his customers – and their pets - will be very appreciative!
With your own healthy diet, you’ll have noticed the positive spin-offs. Implementing a better diet for your animal also results in a healthier and happier pet at all levels: physically, mentally and emotionally. Your animal will enjoy improved well-being, increased energy, and better sleeping patterns along with numerous other benefits. And a healthier and happier pet results in a healthier and happier pet owner. A playful animal lives longer and is far more fun to spend time with – and, not too mention, far less prone to expensive trips to the veterinarian.
By stocking your pantry full of green pet food, you are doing your pet and our planet a favour. Remember, at the end of the day, those empty tins of canned dog or cat food should be recycled after use. Just thoroughly rinse these out and dispose of them correctly. Check the material of any bagged dry food to see if you can easily recycle this as well.
