American citizens are preparing for their annual Thanksgiving Day feast. While families and friends are gathered around the dinner table “gobbling” down the traditional turkey and fixings and giving thanks, they should not forget to give thanks for the bird – especially, it is of the organic variety.
One of the biggest benefits to serving up an organic turkey to your family and guests is for better individual health. Your dinner guests can rest assured that the organic bird has been raised in a more natural environment. Such birds consume a diet without pesticides, herbicides or antibiotics often used to preserve many food items. With their more natural diet, those birds become far safer for human consumption.
Also know that organic turkeys live better lives. Your standard turkey will often share cramped quarters with other birds. These birds are stuffed with feed and may never see sunlight. Organic turkeys, on the other hand, are allowed to roam free. While the confined birds will gain weight, become larger and seem to provide much more value for the cost-conscious grocery-shopper, would living in such conditions appeal to you?
The freshness of organic turkeys should also greatly appeal to Thanksgiving consumers. With many store-bought birds, these have processed and previously frozen before being given a chance to age – the aged meat is tenderer. Your organic turkey often goes directly from the farmer’s field to your own oven, completely bypassing the freezer.
Furthermore, that organic turkey will simply taste better. When the bird is unnecessarily coated with preservatives, this naturally affects the flavour. Your guests may be pleasantly surprised and will reach for a second, if not a third, helping!
So, for Thanksgiving Day, remember to be thankful for organic turkeys. Your family may well clean their plates and insist on organic turkey for dinner at other times of the year. If you have already made previous Thanksgiving dinner plans, why not plan now to roast an organic turkey for Christmas?
