There are right ways and wrong ways to drink water – for the benefit of both you and our planet! First, actually sipping a glass of water on a regular basis is absolutely imperative. While we humans can live for approximately one month without food, we will not live more than one week without water. If you are regularly fatigued or depressed, water has been shown to increase your energy or enhance your mood. Regular water intake also flushes out toxins and bacteria from your body and keeps you regular.

However, due to the increased frequency of pollutants being dumped into our planet’s waterways, one has to be more wary about simply turning on the kitchen tap or reaching into the refrigerator for the water jug. One easy – and very effective - answer is to use a filter either on your faucet or in your water jug … just remember to replace this on a regular basis.

If you think that drinking bottled water is an option, think again. After you finish drinking, this empty plastic bottle has to go somewhere. Instead of recycling these bottles, more consumers are choosing to carelessly discard these with their household garbage. The end result is that more of these harmful plastic bottles are ending up in planetary landfills, where they do not decompose. Referring to a 2001 report of the World Wide Fund for Nature, it was found that approximately 1.5 million tons of plastic are used to bottle 89 billion liters of water annually.

This is an exorbitant amount of plastic ending up in landfills! Therefore, as you become or remain more mindful about your own water intake, also remember the associated effects on Earth.  We need water to live; however, our planet requires us to be more cognizant of our own waste. Please think twice before you casually dump that plastic water bottle in the trash.
