On March 2, 1904, Theodor Seuss Geisel was born.  Many children know him by the name Dr. Seuss.  Every March many children, parents, and educators take time to celebrate him as well as his well-known books (i.e. Cat in the Hat, All the Places You'll Go, etc.).  It is important that we not only share and read his books with our children, but also how he came to be.

Who is Dr. Seuss?
Dr. Seuss or Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. When he was a young boy his mother, Henrietta, would tell him rhymes.  Hearing this rhymes during his childhood helped him develop his own in his children's books that he wrote.  Many of his childhood memories were embedded into his books.  He did go to Dartmouth College and was the editor-in-chief of the college's magazine.  During this position he got into trouble and wanted to continue to write for the college's magazine, so he used a pseudonym, Seuss, so that he could continue writing articles for the magazine.  He used his middle name for this pseudonym.  During his life, Dr. Seuss wrote forty-four children's books.  He passed away on September 24, 1991.
