On Decem ber 6th, many families will celebrate St. Nicholas Day. It was a holiday that began to celebrate the life of Bishop Nicholas.  Bishop Nicholas grew up in Turkey during the fourth century.  When he was a little boy, his parents taught him about the Christian faith.  After his parents passed away he believed that Jesus told him that he was suppose to sell all of his belongings and give that money to the poor.  From then on he continued to help other in a variety of ways.

How is St. Nicholas Day Celebrated?
St. Nicholas Day continues to be celebrated across the world.   Many children will place either their shoes or stockings out for St. Nicholas to fill with goodies.
 
For those that have been good for the year, they can receive cookies, candy, fruit, and other goodies.  Those that have not been well behaved may find their shoes or stockings filled with coal.  In some households the father will dress up as St. Nicholas to celebrate St. Nicholas and what he represents, doing good to help others.
