May 1st is a day when children can provide a special surprise to those they know and love.  This infamous holiday was started when European settlers immigrated to the United States.  From there individuals made baskets and filled them with flowers and treats.  Not only was it fun to make the homemade baskets and goodies, but also to leave them on your neighbor's doorstep as a welcomed surprise.  This tradition continues today, but with an opportunity for children and their parents to design their baskets however they choose as well as decide what goes into the basket.  Below are lists of websites that can provide more ideas in regards to how to make a May Day basket.

May Day Basket Websites

Once you and your child have decided which basket to make and whether to fill it up with goodies or flowers, make sure to write a list of who you would like to give them to.  They also make great presents to give to your child's classmates at school, friends, and family members.  This day is not only a day to give a gift from the heart, but to also celebrate spring.  Spring has sprung and what makes it even more enjoyable is to give a May Day basket to those you care about.
