Flirting is the essential language used by men and women to communicate a deeper appreciation or understanding of the attractiveness they share. For some, flirting is natural and fluid while others seem quite mystified at this language of attraction. So how do you flirt? It's pretty easy if you know what to do and where to start.
The Eyes
Whether we are aware of it or not, we use our eyes to communicate a world of information to others. Just using strong eye contact when we speak to people gives them the sense that we are fully engaged in them, that we are interested in them. So when you want to put on your flirt face, make sure you look the object of your flirtation in the eye and hold that gaze.
The Smile
Smiling is an essential part of flirting. When we smile at someone, it suggests that we approve of and enjoy that person. Practice your smile in front of a mirror until you decide on your best flirt face. You can even use the camera on your computer to make a short video of yourself putting your best flirt face forward. Now critique your video...is it working, or do you need to adjust the face?
The Words
The words you choose when you speak to someone also communicate a lot about you. If you are flirting with someone, you don't want to use formal language, you want to keep it casual. Be playful in your conversation, maybe tease the object of your flirtation ever so slightly.
The Ideas
What you choose to discuss in a conversation says a lot about you and can up the ante in your flirting. Instead of talking politics, (huge potential for boredom and alienation) talk about the meteor shower you observed, your volunteer project, or the latest book you read. You are giving the object of your flirtation more information about you that makes you more attractive. While half of flirting can be propaganda or bs, don't lay it on too thick or you will be revealed as a player.
The Body
You can use your entire body to flirt. How you stand and the proximity with which you stand to someone can say a lot to the other person about how you feel about them. If you make a joke, reach out and touch the other person lightly on their shoulder or arm. This seemingly insignificant touch is a huge gesture in flirting, and it is about bonding and making a physical connection with the other person.
Flirting is fun, harmless and totally safe. So get out there and practice flirting!
