So you have made the big step to put your personal profile on a dating site in the hopes of finding your perfect mate. Good for you! Writing your dating profile is especially crucial because you are trying to make the best first impression. A good dating profile helps to weed out people who are not right for you and to attract people you are interested in dating. Below are some rules that will help you to craft the profile that lands you a date or even possibly a mate.

Be Honest

Really. In writing your dating profile be truthful about all aspects of yourself including your age, your past marriages, and your interests. Lying is one of the number one dating deal breakers so you want to go out of your way to be 100% truthful in your profile.

Paint a Picture

A profile is a kind of painting that shows your face, so in your dating profile go out of your way to describe yourself, your interests and your habits. Do you watch television? List your top 5 favorite shows. Do you enjoy movies? Include at least 5-10 titles that are your favorite movies. Do you enjoy reading? List a few of your favorite books and authors. Is music important to you? List your favorite bands, musical artists and kinds of music. This is all important information for the potential date or mate cruising through endless lists of faces on an internet dating site.

Express Yourself

Put some of your own personality into your description of yourself. You can use humor to get your personality across, but don’t try to be too clever lest you be mistaken for a player or just a bore.

Enlist a Friend

Many people find it very difficult to write about themselves and to describe themselves accurately, especially when writing an internet dating profile. If this is the case, enlist the help of a sympathetic friend to help you craft a dating profile that describes you accurately and enticingly.

Be Positive

You don’t have to describe your faults or failures as a human being. Focus on your successes and your positive traits in writing your dating profile for the internet.

Photos

The photos that you include in your dating profile are key! It is best to have several excellent recent photos of yourself that show your face and your entire body. If you don’t have photos, enlist a friend to snap a few photos of you in your best light.

So get out there this year and try internet dating and put your best profile forward!
