With the advent of the internet it is now more possible than ever for single people to meet and to have a long distance relationship. So what qualifies as a long distance relationship? If you live more than 2 hours away from your love object that is a long distance romance.

Not All Bad

Being involved in a long distance relationship can have some positive aspects to it. The nature of a long distance relationship is that you might have to spend more time with the person on the phone, chatting or via email. This kind of conversational interaction can lead to a better knowledge of the person with whom you are having a relationship.

Cold Feet

If you are a bit apprehensive about getting into a relationship the long distance relationship could be for you. There is almost no way to jump into a long distance relationship quickly and impulsively. Via distance one is almost forced to take more time to get to know the other person better before committing to something more.

Need For Space

If you are a very independent person who enjoys living on your own schedule, a long distance relationship might suit you to a tee. Since you don’t live in the same town (or maybe even the same time zone) you are able to lead your own life without the interruptions that might present themselves if you were dating someone closer to home.

The Down Side of Long Distance

Dating someone long distance can also be a drag on two people who live too far apart to get together often enough for a relationship to grow and bloom properly. While some might say, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder”, others might say, “Absence makes the heart go wander.”

Costly and Time Consuming

Trying to have a long distance relationship can wreck havoc with your bank account if you are spending money to fly or drive to visit your sweetheart. Long distance bills or cell phone bills can also be pricey. Consider using Skype as a way of communicating cheaply and efficiently via long distance. Snail mail is also a wonderful way to stay in touch with your loved one. Consider sending a hand written love note or postcard just to reach out and say hello.
