I once had to take a personality test when I applied for a job in a medical corporation. The personality test took three hours and was very intensive in its questions. Ultimately, I got the job so I must have passed, but it surprised and amazed me that my personality could be summarized and categorized through a fairly simple test.

Background and History
The groundwork for these four aspects of the personality was laid out by Carl Jung and was later developed as a personality test by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. Interestingly enough, this personality test was developed by Myers-Briggs as a way of helping women enter back into the workforce during World War II. Fascinating!

So what is your personality type?
The Meyers-Briggs Personality Test will weigh and measure four specific aspects of your personality:

  • Extraversion or Introversion
  • Sensing or Intuition
  • Thinking or Feeling
  • Judgment or Perception

In a standard Myers-Briggs personality test you are asked to answer a series of yes and no questions about you. There are no right or wrong answers though it can be quite frustrating when you feel the answer could be yes or no! Take the test in a quiet atmosphere and don’t linger too long on your answers to get the most accurate outcome. Remember: this test is designed to help you get to know who you are and you may be surprised at how accurate the test can be.

So What Does It Mean?
When you complete the test your four aspects of your personality are revealed. I am a INTJ, an introverted, intuitive, thinking, judging personality. My test also tells me that while I am a “distinctly expressed introvert”, I am a “slightly expressed thinking personality.” This just means that my personality is on the fence in regard to thinking versus feeling, but the thinking side tends to win out.

Analyzing Your Personality Type
There sixteen possible personality types. According to your four-letter personality type, you can then read a portrait of your assignation. For example, the INTJ seem to be scientific and organized and may be natural leaders, able to see the big picture. The downside of the INTJ is that we can have difficulty expressing our emotions and others may find us aloof or reserved.

Take the Test!
So what is your personality type? Take the test to find out. Remember, your answers to this test may waiver or change slightly depending on the day but generally this test is a good indicator not of who you are, but of where you fit in.
