Every night we have dreams while we sleep but, for many of us, it can be difficult or impossible to remember those dreams. You might wonder why it's even important to remember your dreams. The fact is, dreams can contain valuable messages and insights at a deep, subconscious and unconscious level. These messages and insights can then be applied to your waking life. Dreams can be the language of the spirit, helping you to get in touch with your higher self, energy body and spirit guides.  Use the following easy and effective techniques to help you better remember your dreams.

Create a healthy sleep routine

In order to have clear, lucid dreams you need to establish a healthy sleep routine. This can be done by establishing a regular pattern to your sleep, by going to sleep at the same time each night and awakening at the same time each morning. You can also create a healthy sleep routine by not eating a heavy meal right before sleeping, as this can interfere with the quality of your sleep. Also, refrain from watching television or using the computer at least an hour before going to bed, as this too can interfere with your sleep pattern or make it hard for you to fall asleep.

State your Intention

Before you go to sleep, state to yourself that you intend to remember your dreams that night. This can program your mind and spirit to be more aware during your dream state and help your mind have better dream recall. When you make the statement, be sure to actually believe it will happen.

Create a Dream Journal

This can be a notebook or blank journal that you dedicate just for the purpose of recording your dreams. As soon as you wake up in the morning, write down whatever you remember of your dreams. Think of the images, details, colors, sensations and emotions you experienced during the dream and write these down. This writing process not only helps you have better dream recall, it can also help you better understand the messages in your dreams. You can also keep a small flashlight next to your journal, in case you wake up during the night and want to write about a dream. Be careful not to analyze your dream as you write, just let the memory flow.

Crystal Energy

Certain crystals are particularly helpful when it comes to assisting with dream recall. Some of these crystals include

  • Amethyst- Helps you relax and have better dream recall
  • Herkimer Diamond- Opens the Brow and Crown Chakra, enhancing visualization and dream recall
  • Hematite- Grounds and protects, allowing you reach a deep state of sleep. Helps with mental clarity and memory

Keep the crystal under your pillow or on a bedside table as you sleep.

Create a Restful Environment

To better remember your dreams, it's important to create an environment that encourages good, restful sleep. Keep your room darkened, well-ventilated and quiet during sleeping hours. If outside noise interferes with your sleep you can block it out by using a fan or recordings of nature sounds such as waves or rainfall. You may also wish to use sage spray or a sage smudge stick on occasion to cleanse your room of any stagnant or negative energy.

Incorporate these ideas into your daily life and you will find that your dream recall will improve greatly. Sweet dreams!
