When it comes animal totems, also known as power animals, the owl is one that brings exceptionally strong and wise energy. These birds of the night have long been associated with wisdom, knowledge, stealth and strength. To the ancient Greeks, the owl was a symbol of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, heroic strength and reason. In Hinduism, the owl is associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, wisdom and courage.  Many Native American tribes include the owl in their tribal legends and recognize the knowledge and strength the owl has to offer. In Shamanic rituals the owl not only brings wisdom, but also assists with clairvoyance and astral travel.

Just as cultures and beliefs have drawn, and still draw, on the wise strength of the owl, so can you. You may wish to bring owl energy into your life in order to gain wisdom or greater insight into a problematic situation. Or perhaps as a way to find courage and strength. You may also wish to call on owl energy to open your third eye chakra. Whatever your reason may be, meditation is a good way to get in touch with the energy of the owl.

Find a quiet place to sit where you will be free from interruptions. Light a candle or incense if you wish. Ground and center yourself as you become aware of your breath flowing in and out of your lungs. As your body relaxes, close your eyes and visualize the image of an owl. Ask owl for guidance if this is the purpose of your meditation. Keep your mind and body relaxed as you do this, but be aware of any images or words that come to you as you continue in your meditative state. Don't be frustrated if nothing comes to mind at first. You may find that ideas, insight, signs or symbols come to you at a later time.

You can also meditate as a way to draw strength from the owl totem. The beginning process of grounding and visualization is the same. But instead of guidance, you will be asking the owl for assistance such as courage or the ability to make wise decisions.

As you come out of your meditative state, thank the owl for its assistance and take a few moments to become aware of your surroundings again. It's a good idea to take notes of anything that came to mind during your meditation so you can refer to them at a later time.

Owl energy is very powerful, and can be helpful in many areas of your daily and spiritual life. Call on the wise energy of the owl, and you will not be disappointed.
