How to Choose A Quartz Crystal
Quartz crystals commonly grow in a six-sided or hexagonal shape that often form a point at one end. They may be transparent, cloudy or contain rainbow colors, lines or streaks. When it comes to choosing a crystal that is right for you, the clarity has little to do with the crystal’s abilities. What is more important is the sympathetic energy or connection between you and the crystal. That is why it’s important to handle the crystal and get a feel for whether it’s right for you, before purchasing one. Hold the crystal in your dominant hand, the one you use when writing, and be open to any sensations that the crystal may be giving out. You may feel it giving out a subtle tingling or change in temperature. It may be that you just feel an emotional connection with it. Be open to any sensations that the crystal gives out and if you don’t feel any connection, try another crystal. Trust your instincts when choosing a crystal and go with whatever feels right to you. If you receive a quartz crystal as a gift or purchase one before you handle it, you may need to activate the crystal. At times the energy in a crystal can become dormant and the activation process can awaken these energies. This can be done by gently rubbing the crystal between your palms, washing it gently with spring water or by smudging it with sweetgrass or sage.
Cleansing and Charging
It is important for quartz crystals to occasionally be cleansed and charged in order to clear them of any negative energy and to energize their unique properties. This can be done by adding a small amount of sea salt to a bowl of water and letting the crystal or crystals soak for several hours. Remove the crystal, rinse and let it air dry naturally. Another way to cleanse crystals is with a smudge stick. Just gently fan the smoke from the smudge stick (preferably with a feather fan) over the crystal for several minutes. If you have a large collection of crystals this is an excellent way to cleanse them.
To charge your quartz crystal all you need to do is place it in sunlight for several hours. The ultra-violet rays of the sun restores the energy that is depleted from the crystal over time and use. Another excellent way to charge a quartz crystal is with the light of a full moon. On the night of a full moon, place the crystal on a window sill or outside where it won’t be disturbed and let it soak up the light of the moon overnight.
Quartz Crystal Uses
For focus and concentration keep a clear quartz crystal on your desk or near the area that you are working. Or place a small quartz crystal in your pocket before an exam, a business meeting or any place that you need to be especially focused and aware.
Revive any stale energy in your home or office with the use of crystal water. To make crystal water, place a few small quartz crystals in a clear glass jar and fill with spring water. Place the jar in full sunlight for about 3 to 6 hours to draw the energies of the crystal into the water. Remove the crystals from the water and pour the water into a spray bottle or atomizer. Spray around the room to revive the area and cleanse away any negative energy. This is also good to use before meditating or doing any type of spiritual work. However the potency of the crystal water decreases or time so it can only be used within 3 to 4 hours of making it. Crystal water can also be sprayed on plants as a way to energize and revive them.
Meditation can be greatly enhanced with the use of quartz crystal. Because the quartz crystal can amplify and energize a person‘s consciousness, the energy that is taken in during a spiritual meditation can be raised by the energy of the quartz crystal. The crystal can be held in your hand, be placed on an altar or table that is near you during the meditation, or it can be used as a visual point to focus on during the meditation.
