The heal ing technique of Reiki is one that is commonly used to help reduce stress and invoke feelings of inner peace. Developed by Dr. Mikao Usui, it is a way of working with the body's Ki, or Life Force Energy, that flows within everyone. It is believed that when this energy is depleted, stress or illness can occur. As the interest in natural, holistic healing methods has increased so too has the interest in Reiki, which works to restore a person's vital energy and encourage healing.

Although Reiki is not associated with any spiritual practice or religion, Reiki practitioners are channeling their energy directly from a higher or Divine energy source where it flows from the palms of their hands to the recipient. Because of the Divine energy associated with Reiki it's not uncommon for a person to feel more in tune with their spiritual path and have a greater sense of spiritual peace after a Reiki session. The reason can be due to the healing effects Reiki has a person's energy field. If this auric energy field becomes blocked or fragmented it can prevent a person from feeling connected with their higher spiritual self. This lack of connection can then possibly manifest itself into emotional pain or disease within the body.

As mentioned earlier, Reiki is not a religion nor is based on any religious doctrine. People of many different faiths and spiritual paths take part in Reiki in order to find greater spiritual growth, enrichment and healing of the spirit.

It's important to note that a person taking part in a Reiki session is not just a passive recipient but opens up spiritually and draws upon the restorative abilities within their own spirit and mind. The Reiki practitioner is a clear and open vessel through which the healing energy flows, but it is up to the recipient to manifest the balance and harmony in their life.
