Sedona, Arizona is an area known for its stunningly beautiful red rock canyons and cliffs. It has also long been considered by many people to be a spiritual power center due to the vortexes of energy located in the area. These vortexes are swirling centers of energy that are believed to flow out from the surface of the earth and interact with a person’s inner self.  Sedona is one major energy center in the world, with some other well-known areas being Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids of Egypt. With its combination of natural beauty, temperate climate and subtle spiritual energy, Sedona has long been a place that attracts thousands of visitors each year.  It is an area that inspires healing, meditation and prayer and is a haven for spiritual sages, artists, New Age practitioners and mystics.

Although the plural form of vortex is vortices, in Sedona they are referred to as vortexes. Not exactly electrical or completely magnetic, these vortexes do leave a slight, measurable residual magnetic energy in the areas where the energy is strongest. As mentioned earlier, this energy is said to interact with a person's inner spirit and yet this interaction will be different for each person. There will be some people who may feel little to nothing at all, and yet more sensitive individuals may feel a connection that ranges from subtle to profound.

The reason that these spiritual sensations take place is that it is believed the vortex energy is very similar to the energy centers that reside within each person. The vortexes of Sedona, along with the area’s natural beauty and serenity, make it an ideal place for people who wish to take a spiritual retreat or enrich their personal spiritual journey.

Sedona is located on highway 89A in Arizona and is approximately 110 from Phoenix and 30 miles from Flagstaff. At 4500 feet in elevation, Sedona has a climate that is typically comfortable and fairly mild. Guided day tours of the vortexes are offered, however since the most popular vortexes are fairly easy to reach, many people choose to drive and hike to the areas on their own. There are also many spiritual and New Age workshops, seminars and retreats offered throughout the year in Sedona. A popular non-profit organization called the Sedona Creative Life Center offers activities such as theater, dance and concerts and also a wide variety of different workshops and spiritual growth seminars.
